Week 9 Photo Integrity Reflection

For the next few weeks, we will be examining the concept of photo integrity. You have been asked to complete the following standards for this project.

Part of this project is that you reflect every day so you can be able to use this information for your writeup at the end. This project started on Tuesday 3/24. You should have a refection from each day. You will receive credit (or not) based on your reflection. The standards for reflection remain the same.

  2. So far, I've truly enjoyed this segment of the class. A lot more than that earlier rubric thing we were doing--this is far, far more interesting, and a lot more fun as well!

I am having some problems, naturally. Photoshop is a complex program with limitless options, but limitless fault possibility to boot. It's an unfortunate balance.

I had no idea what i was really doing today. I tried out different things and messed up the picture so many times.I'm still learning how to move pictures from one place to another but i am doing well.

  4. Well last week I been trying to figure out photoshop and I still am this week. I am really bad at photoshop and don't really see myself getting any better at it. But I almost got a picture done but when it was finished I realized that it was kind of lame looking and deleted it so I am starting all over again. But I think that making these photo's will be a hard thing for me because photoshop is a hard program to learn for me and there are just so many tools on photoshop that its mindboggling. But I took some pictures today and have a few good ideas that I am going to work on.

  5. The first day of this project was not very successful for me. I believe that I was only able to crank out one good photo for editing purposes. I made the photo one that if a person were to look at it, they would be unsure if it was a real photo or an unedited photo.

  6. A few days into this project, I brought in some photos that I took while I was on vacation in Japan. The photo that I chose was one that was a genuine photo of a river with a mountain enveloped in fog in the background. I think that this is one of the better photos that I had taken for this project.

  7. Today, I have finished mostly everything required for this project. I think that the photos that I have taken and edited are good photos and are adequate for this project.

  8. This part of the class has been my favorite so far. In the past week I have edited a photo so that it looks like I haven't and I have edited a photo that clearly looks like it has been photoshopped. I think photo integrity is an important thing to look at because we are surrounded by visuals in today's world. Everything we look at when it comes to advertising and the like has been altered in some. Being able to explore how magazines and news stations work might help us keep a handle on how much of it we actually believe. Photoshop is an amazing tool and it is fun to see if you can alter a picture to make it seem real, but there are limits to everything and I think that some advertising should be placed under those limits.

I still have four other pictures to do because I really take my time on each photo. It took me four days to finish one last week, so now I know I need to speed up my pace.

  9. Yesterday, I was able to successfully post all of my pictures for grading. I have to say that this has been my favorite part of this class so far, and I would like to do something like this again soon.

  10. Yesterday and today I worked on some of my photos. I managed to get everything done that needed to be. I found out that I really like editing photos, it gives you a kind of power. If you don't like the way something looks you can always fix it. I wish I had my own photoshop editor following me around all the time.

I have also realized the time and effort that goes into each ad that we see around us. Every person in magazines are photoshopped and airbrushed. Of course I knew that, but I don't know how much time went into the perfecting of the models. It makes me upset that some of the magazines don't have to follow the same photo integrity as journalists do. They are allowed to manipulate any photo any way they want without consequences. I don't agree with that.

I thought this part of the class has been the most fun so far because it was more hands on than the other things we were doing. Photoshop is a good way to productively waste time and I like seeing the changes I made from start to finish. It is a good feeling once a picture is done, especially if it is done correctly. I will probably invest in a good camera when I have money and continue to take photos.

  11. Today I worked on a post about photojournalistic integrity. I had finished my pictures yesterday and feel pretty good about the work I have done. Although the pictures are not "professional" by any standards I do think that they are better than some I have seen online. Photoshop is most certainly a fun program to fiddle around with and I want to download it on my computer sometime. I think that program has endless possibilities and I want to keep exploring them.

  12. Over the past week I worked on editing photos using photoshop. I definitely have to say I do not like using photoshop because I still don't get how to use it :/ It was a little fun to experiment with some photos and change things that were either noticeable or not noticeable at all. Photoshop got very confusing and frustrating at times, to the point where I just wanted to break the computer, but it was nice to learn on my own to fix the problems I had. In the end I think I had okay photos, definitely not as good as the other photos in this class, I think I could have worked a little harder to get better results in the end.

  13. This week I Used PhotoShop to make some pretty interesting pics. There on Google docs. I made random pics and a lot of them didn't make sense. My favorite one was the one of Dube as a terrorist.
